INTERVAL DESIGN

Interval means "space". It is a background contour, a negative space which surrounds individual parts of a composition. In this cutting process, each piece must be diminished in size in order to be contained within the original shape and permit the interval to show. Resizing the shapes also creates the interval design. The simple leaves below explain the cutting process.

The first image is cut from a side(dotted line, middle shape) & not visible in the final work.

Shapes can always be changed and reformed into new configurations which greatly increases the negative design areas. The right example is "free cut" into simple and more complex textured areas.

All displayed work shows more intricate cutting and detail. Gluing is also quite a challenge.
