PUTTING IT TOGETHER | |
 | Having experimented with basic forms, students were asked for an assignment to (1) design a simple "all over" raised design, free or repeated, (2)create an attractive arrangement of 4 surface texture cuts, or (3) show these raised cuts in a realistic design. There were a variety of solutions, and here are a few. |
 |  The left design consists of repeated blocks invented by the student. The right one, an all over plan of triangles, has lifted and "pinched" but not cut adjacent shapes. |
 The fish design utilized half and staggered circles, triangles and double cuts, as in the eye and tail fin. Six different relief designs were organized together in the right composition. |  |
 |  On the left, 6 different relief cuts are arranged together in a composition while on the right, a very simple but strong shadow and negative design resulted from oversized "plus" cuts. All assignments were on 9" X 12" formats. |
