PUTTING IT TOGETHER

r9

Having experimented with basic forms, students were asked for an assignment to (1) design a simple "all over" raised design, free or repeated, (2)create an attractive arrangement of 4 surface texture cuts, or (3) show these raised cuts in a realistic design. There were a variety of solutions, and here are a few.

r3r8

The left design consists of repeated blocks invented by the student. The right one, an all over plan of triangles, has lifted and "pinched" but not cut adjacent shapes.

r4

The fish design utilized half and staggered circles, triangles and double cuts, as in the eye and tail fin. Six different relief designs were organized together in the right composition.

On the left, 6 different relief cuts are arranged together in a composition while on the right, a very simple but strong shadow and negative design resulted from oversized "plus" cuts. All assignments were on 9" X 12" formats.
