Rendering in Colored Pencil employs many techniques that give this medium its unique character. This practice skill introduces Blending 1. LIGHT AND COLOR APPLICATIONS create the illusion of 3-dimensionality and suggest volume. As light changes, the hue shifts towards warmer of cooler adjacent colors on the spectrum. The 8½ X11 paper was the first practice skill. The center hues were required. Blends to the right and left could be personally chosen as long as the proper contrasts of "darker" and "lighter" blends were maintained. | |
![]() | ![]() Students were given a "Tonal Chart" demonstrating the strong/light contrasts resulting from the gradual blends in both directions. |
Study the mixtures when they are completed. All along the scale to the left and right are many new blends of various "moods" and "temperatures", each of purposeful use for future "modeling" techniques. | ![]() |
With this practice completed, we're ready to move on to some applications. So, lets take a look at Line Design in the next section. |
