WORKING WITH 2 CIRCLES

The next practice begins with a 1" circle added in the middle of the the 5" circle. Points are easily transferred from the outer to the inner circle. Place a ruler at each lower and upper point aligning both with the center.Mark both the upper and lower points of the inner circle at the same time, continuing the procedure all around both circles. The starting connections begin between point 1 on the outer circle to point 8 on the inner circle as shown in the left diagram. Continue with point 2 outer circle to point 9 inner, 3 to 10 etc. going until point 34 connects to point 7 (right).

Now for the 2nd layer!

The second linear layer is a crossover design, connecting outside point 1 to inside point 34 and continuing 2 to 35, 3 to 36, 4 to 1,(above left)etc. The same design can be accomplished in an alternative method by working both crossover lines at one time. The connections begin the same way and follow the same sequence: outside point 1 to both inside points 34 AND 4,(above right) etc. Here, the 2 lines drawn create the resulting "v" construction (left) each time.

The third layer uses the "intersections" that resulted from the crossover lines. The connection shown begins with an arbitrary point 1 to 8 intersection points away. Continue from the next intersection to the one following the previously connected point. The point intervals can be less or more, depending on the size of the new shapes desired and the new line not extending beyond the inner circle. Try out some different intervals and see the results.

The final layer of this design utilizes the 2nd circle itself with a very simple linear connection as practiced in the very first drawing. The points used are from point 1 to point 10. This produces a very slim crossover pattern on the inside. The larger the number, the larger the line pattern and the smaller the final opening of the parabolic circular curve. Experiment with other point connections as you like.

This was a more complicated pattern preparation than the beginning one, involving linear crossovers, an additional center circle, and connections between intersecting lines. Of course, it's purpose is to offer more possibilities for pattern determinations in, around and between all the lines and shapes one can determine within the construction.
