PUTTING IT TOGETHER

The constructed "V" lines overlap each other at the top. In the crossedover areas points are select which determine the intersecting lines. In the center, red lines recreate the simple curve of practice one.

The element of PATTERN can incorporate many shapes, materials and compositions in a variety of repeated organizations. Wallpaper is a common one in which one design repeats in diamond, diagonal, or vertical directions. Working with only one shape--the circle, offers an interesting and uniquely singular way to discover hidden patterns that remain unseen until one pulls them out from oblivion and with color and textures and contrasts makes them visible.

One more thought. If you expect perfection in these designs, don't. Remember, where "guestimates" establish what should be absolute and accurate 36 points, error is to be expected. If you have protractors and can perfectly define the construction points, do so. Not having them, I valued design discovery a primary function of these exercises.

flashing arrow     Inner and outer circles are used differently in Circles 5, practice 3, involving "spiked" angles and more pattern discoveries.
