MASTERING THE UNEXPECTED

Ink into water is always a phenomenon--unexexpected and unrepeatable. Each touch of water to ink pushes and pulls it into bursts of curling paths according to its momentum. Wet ink + water = runny, unique, and unplanned excitement. Is it controlable? Sure, but avoid too much if this is the chosen rendering. Quality paper is a must--one not absorbent, or the movement will be curtailed hampering the flow that should occur. This flow can be manipulated by the brush and swayed into positions, pulled out, faded, blotted or given its total freedom. Here are some examples.

Soft, low intensity washes are accented by small, dark free flows.

The exciting nature of ink and water is the joy of anticipating the created effects. One can always repeat the techniques, but to duplicate an exact result is not possible. Maybe that's why this method is both strange and extraordinary. The above examples are bold and free or modulated with small flowing contrasts. In the next section, INKWASH 3 other techniques and interpretations will be shown. Tune in!
