windowtoart "Drawing": CURVES 3   Crazy Circles   Complex Curves     Drawing     Choices

Students were given an option of creating a free form curve with 2 to 3 loops as in the previous drawing. They were to creating a large and nicely flowing curve that would bend, twist and circle about itself. It was to fit a 12"X18" format. They were encouraged to use 1/8" point widths. Most curves at this size would require between 200 and 350 points--a lot of connected lines. It was a challenge to both keep the points light and be able to see them as overlapping lines progressed. This challenge was often met and surpassed.

A easy path to follow with 3 loops

5 straight lines are added interest

4 loops make great twists

Dark points are helpful but noticeable

flashing arrow     What's next? Well, if you take one end of a Complex Curve and connect it to the other, you would have Crazy Circles! And that's more intriguing.
