The racing car burns tires with scattered, irregular crosshatches, changing from massed to diffused sprays as seen in the enlargement. The drawing has strong black/white solid areas which nicely balance the right textured areas. Scratchboard is a technically simple medium with very strong contrasts. The opportunity to incorporate texture is unending. The needed material for scratching can be very easily made and ordinary, sharp tools are available. Give it a try--it's exciting. |

 Scratchboard is usually black and white. However, very interesting and colorful renderings can be created with colored backgrounds and painted surfaces. See the DRAWING section for these selections in the "Crayon Etching" area. |
