windowtoart "Drawing": Sequential Design 2, Step 1   Part 2     Part 1   Drawing     Choices

SCISSORS MAKE POWERFUL FREE FORMS

Sequential 2 differs from Sequential Design 1 in complexity of drawing. Both begin with "axis cuts" with Sequential 2 utilizing a feature of "double cutting" in 2 hues. The resultant curved, angular, and combination forms are arranged by placement, color substitution, form reduction, and overlapping forms in 2 or 3 levels. This first step is designed on a 12"X18" format of a different color.

Two 9"X12" construction papers are held together and "axis cut" at angles.

Shapes are freely cut on any axis. Eithor color can be placed in its respective area (single cut). The 2nd color can be re-cut and placed over its duplicate, (double layer) or used singly. A triple cut is formed by cutting the first shape a third time and overlapping it on the second cut in some fashion. The design of course, is one of symmetry, but there is so much freedom in organizing the shapes cut (positive images) and the "left over" areas (negative shapes) into unusual movement and placement on the finished background format. See below.

Here, positive shapes nicely connect one axis area to another while the negative areas are "filled in" by the background. Positive shapes have been reduced and replaced allowing the background to be more interactive. Double and triple layers are evident--sometimes in the same color.

Straight lines and angles dominate this design. Some positive shapes are reduced and replaced singly, some are 2nd-layered. One positive shape was cut apart to connect 2 dark hues to each other. Can you find it?
