A QUICK REVIEW (1.) Axis cutting provides "unexpected" form and shape creation. Scissors sometimes assist the mind better and faster than the pencil. (2.) The resultant positive and negative shapes provide strong color contrasts, unusual symmetrical shapes that differ with each individual's organization. In itself it is a good exercise in symmetry, layering and form modification. (3). The contour drawing to be melded with these shapes is open to all topics. (4.) The tracing of the axis shapes can be placed in whatever direction enhances the new drawing. Students are free to select individual parts and sections, modify them, or eliminate whatever becomes too cumbersome or irrelevant in their drawing. (5.) In defining the almagamated areas, students should consider those areas dominant to their drawing and emphasis them with strong constrasts, textures and color. Other areas can be controlled with less intensities, smaller textures or light hues. (6.) This is a great experience in controlling the unexpected, in basic art fundamental skills, in disciplining and shaping dominance and importance and learning how to organize a well balanced composition with good skills and strategy. A practise in texture drawing and values are good reviews to any drawing. Do give Sequential Drawing a try. |
