The summary drawing for beginning level students was to compose a "monocromatic" (different values of 1 hue) design on any subject. Sketches were organized on themes such as Sports, Tools/Gardening, Seasons, Food, Fantasy (left diagram)etc. Students need help in realizing ordinary objects/themes make excellent compositions and that quality depends not on objects but on display. The general requirements to meet were (a) display of 2 of the 3 methods of pencil line drawing, (b) show 3 or more values of the chosen hue (c) accent final values with a blend of a darker color or black.
