PART 1: REALISM: Pencil Rendering

for the Unit: Styles in Art

A or A-

High quality drawing with fine details; knowledgeable use of pencil techniques; sizes fill background well; strong, clear deisgn; unusual to very good ideas and placement.

B+ B or B-

Generally very good, clear design and drawing quality; sizes of shapes might fit background better; more light/dard contrasts needed and more emphasis on edges; proportions could be better.

C+ or C

Overall design and presentation good to the standard required; design namy lack some drawing control in contour or proportions; shading somewhat blurred; background tood empty.

C- or D

Design quality is acceptable but could have improvement shape sizes; general pencil techniques used but could have been better employed and more varied; too little differences.

PART 2: ABSTRACTION

for the Unit: Many Ways to Abstract

A or A-

Unusual to very good design changes made from the original drawing; use of color is exciting and makes a very strong, bold presentation; design and background well integrated into a good composition.

B+ B or B-

Some very good drawing control and clever ideas in making the abstraction different from the 1st drawing; some shapes could be improved; good color interest in general.

C+ or C

Design meets the challenges expected at a good standard of accomplishment; more experience in thinking "abstractly" will improve general design abilities; good to fair color presentations.

C- or D

Design not altered very much from original; sizes may be too small for the background provided; drawing lacking in quality detail; color application simple or may appear hastily done.

PART 3: POSITIVE/NEGATIVE PAINTING

for the Unit: Part 3

A or A-

All parts of changeovers accurately done; shapes used entire space well; painting edges are sharp and clear; appearance is colorful and strong; good craftsmanship and high work quality; no errors in changeovers.

B+ B or B-

Changeovers followed well with some small errors in placement; painting techniques will improve with more experience; general design qualities in drawing, changes and colors done well.

C+ or C

Painted edges may be too irregular or loose and cover only part of the outline; more craftsmanship needed in brush use; design simple in construction but done satisfactorily; shapes could be larger.

C- or D

Work may not be finished or correctly followed the changeover principles; concept of redesign and placement not understood well; appearance lacking in neatness and personal efforts.
