Very good demonstrations of many values; competence in techniques; very strong design in arrangement and contrasts.

B+ B or B-

Value differences are well presented; some parts many need strengthening; overall work done well.

C+ or C

Concept is generally undestood; value changes are evident and more could be presented; arrangement/contrasts could be strengthened.

C- or D

Value changes too vague or lacking; quality of work needs more concentration and application of techniques.

PENCIL RENDERING: Shape Organization

A or A-

Forms advanced in construction, arrangement and techniques used; shapes related well to one another in placement and applied techniques; strong in appearance.

B+ B or B-

Some shapes integrate well with others; good placement and techniques show that balance principles were understood and applied.

C+ or C

Better arrangement/balance needed between shapes and background; selected shapes may be too simply executed without concern to details or placement to each other.

C- or D

Drawing of shapes needs to be stronger, more defined and accurate; composition and arrangement should be expanded more; shapes too small.

Smooth and textured surfaces rendered with strong competence; each presented with excellent quality.

Contrast differences presented very well; shape contours expressed well and shadings effective; some arrangements/details could be stronger.

C+ or C

Drawing details attain basic expectations or better; generally a good and satisfactory presentation with some areas stronger than others.

C- or D

Line contours, texture surfaces barely expressed; work needs more effort and application.

PENCIL RENDERING: Craftsmanship

A or A-

Very high quality of workmanship; neat, precise, smudge-free and orderly forms in all constructions. Great work!

B+ B or B-

Very good work overall; some details may show minor flaws which take away from the perfection it could have. Very nice work!

C+ or C

General presentation, neatness and design clarity show that an overall effort was made to present the idea well; good basic art skills demonstrated.

C- or D
