WHAT GRADE DID I GET ?

If there is one aspect of conflict between students and teachers it's grades. Students, often expecting higher rewards ask the inevitable Why? or How Come? when grades are posted.

After often explaining verbally, I found that posted grades, always accompanied by a Grade Criteria Chart would define the expectations or requirements by which each grade level was evaluated. Very few complaints or need for further explanations followed once this was established, although student comments were still welcomed.

A few examples of Grade Criteria will be shown and accessed from the Evaluations button which leads from here to others, and also from the individial art level Syllabus pages like here. These are suggestions offered for determining your own criteria and expectations for work students present for evaluation. Modify as you wish. I hope you will find them fair, supportive and purposeful for the students' point of view as well as your own.
