PUTTING IT TOGETHER

As usually happens in an art class, students learn from each other. It was interesting to watch the selective methods of application each found suitable for their own ideas.

A nice combination of layered, flat and 3D tissue, transparent and opaque shapes and graded textures are apparent here. Notice too, part of the design extends beyond borders.

This one is a surprising semi-abstract from a beginning novice. The huge butterfly overwhelms the swaying tree with layered and 3D crushed tissue. Since this occurs at the beginning of the year, we have lots of time for improved drawing, don't we.

Sharp cut overlays, under and over drawings characterize this arrangement. The endless stairs raise the interest of what is really happening here.

Folded tissue was a different approach as well as the "tassels" that hung from the fan base. She also invented her own cut paper/crayon textured background.

Note: Another interesting method of tissue paper is wetting it, dropping it in place for background or foreground shapes, and removing the paper leaving a color-stained, texture. Of course, one might also used the wadded tissue too! However, today's colored tissue paper is often made water resistent. (sigh!)
