windowtoart "Fundamentals":Spatial Tensions 2 Part 1 Balance Foundations Choices
![]() Tempera, colored paper, cord, yarn. Many fundamentals shown here: interval, line design, positive/negative shapes, contrast, texture, approximate symmetry with a sidewise "v" movement. | ![]() Foil, tempera, cord, colored paper wallpaper Here the background with yellow sponged texture augments the very delicate cutting of shapes. Solid ones nicely constrast the piercing foil and string contours. |
![]() Enamel, foil and colored papers, yarn, marker Primary and complement colors offer strong contrasts. Yarn and black lines open up the solid shapes. | ![]() Colored paper and ink. Large curved shapes dominate the composition in a circular movement. Solutions can be simple and effective at the same time. |
The integration of all spatial tensions was easily accomplished. As was noted in some of the designs, other principles and elements like contrasts, balance, line and texture were effected--as though they too were intentionally planned. With the practices completed, the fundamentals were then applied to a large summary painting, where evaluations were based upon the principles and elements selected, color study and the various painting techniques employed.
