The color assignment in conjunction with the unplanned pattern, was to choose a color classification system for the pattern painting. This was a beginning painting experience for the non-art class and it was well received.

Many sketches, an introductory staple, were attempted before a final selection of lines and shapes. To be sure the process of mirror matching was understood, small blocks were made with the triangle repeated 4-8 times. It was a good way to see how the pattern "grew". Finally, after 24 tracings (whew!) all were ready to bring this to a bright conclusion as seen below.

These were so enjoyable to do! The design begins with "?" and ends with "how about that!" The first pattern utilized a "complement" color scheme. The second one followed "cool color" hues and the left one, like the first, was complementary or "opposite" colors.

In painting, only the primaries and neutrals black and white were available. All secondaries had to be mixed.

Also, for neater edges for these first-time painters, black markers were allowed for edging clearness and contrasts.
