PUTTING IT TOGETHER

These first time students learned the cutting and reduction processes very well. The dark hues you see are the "final cuts" of the original block, or all that remained after the 2nd cutting was completed. Some tears were shed when the need to "go back" to the previous cutting was not possible. Hence, the importance of printing many color varieties of the the first uncut block, and the first cutting before the final outlines and details are cut in place. Note: all work is 9"x12".

Strong contrasts and textures, simple lines and color create this interesting garden.

Several tools and textures mark this lovely monocromatic print. Linear and solid areas.

2nd cut shading and all-over line design make this print open and greatly contoured.

Multi-color hues enhance this print. Dark, clear, linear movement in the composition.

Curves and swirls surround solid hues of a group of women. I found this a very stirring print.

Soft yellows and greens mark this majestic bird. Very nice rhythmic line textures and shapes.

The "tomb" has emotional appeal with its dark hues and simple figures. Nice texture and color balance.

All 3 blocks were cut in this first-timer's turtle print. There was lots of tool cutting in this one!

Nice multi-hue blends, symbol placement and texture sizes. White areas result from cutting the background block.

Color areas and contour lines define a pony's delight. This non-art student expressed her idea with simplicity and excitement.

Soft multi-color blue-green blends with the 2nd block contrasted nicely against the blue/black final details. A nice first try.
