windowtoart "Mixed Media": Abstraction   Line     Mixed Media     Choices

Some examples, perhaps a bit hungry for more mature expression, nevertheless showed good effort in effecting abstract modifications. When ones' visual acuity as well as definition is underdeveloped, the road to quality competence may be a long one. Even so, the goal here was to put inhibitions aside, adapt to new thinking, put comprehension and ability to work and see what happens!

In studying the examples it is observable how difficult combinging more than one abstracting technique was for some individuals to accept. Many students easily adopted linear changes, but few comfortably implemented shape distortions or exaggerations or added new ideas not presented in the original drawing. However, with lots of suggestions, ideas were accepted and additional changes were made. All in all, the experience was a satisfactory one for most students, and small steps in the acceptance of abstraction as being "good" were made. Besides, small steps can make a big path, and we still had lots of time.
