MULTI-PROCEDURAL MIXED MEDIA PAINTING COLLAGE

What a mouthful! I know, but it best describes the content. This advanced art painting plan was to incorporate grid drawing, collage, interval design and various styles of painting. And it all begins with a simple sketch.

A 9"X12" drawing paper is marked in ball point pen with a 1" grid. A pencil sketch is planned and can easily be erased and changed without removing the grid. The shapes to be staggered by interval (red) are outlined here and cut out. Note: If desired, the shapes to be kept can be isolated parts of the design and do not have to touch the previous shape as they do here.

The enlarged paper, 18"X24", is marked lightly in a 1.5" grid. The cut shapes must now be enlarged to the new size. This resketched area may be the finshed background or be cut out for other surfaces. Upon the enlarged grid the methods for final application are indicated and work begins section by section. Below are closeups of 2 of these areas.

This area was completed on the larger grid and then cut out.

Here, the grid was used to shape the water color paper and painting contour.
