The painting is so loosely done it appears to be a watercolor sketching, a "gesture-like" application with quick linear movements that suggest rather than detail shapes.

Bits of crayon are added on after the painting is completed. In this case, it does not function as "wax resist", but as 3D texture. The bits are arranged where desired, and newspaper is placed over all. The wax is lightly melted with an iron.

A combination of black tempera background and watercolor foreground shows a mixed media blend. Watercolors here are tight blends with very controlled graded washes. To each his own!

Watercolor washes and ink drawing into wet areas characterize this linear painting. Simple color blends with diluted hues set light values while the dark ink strongly contrasts against them.
