PRACTICING THE BASICS

tree sketch

This was a practice to experiment with smooth blends & texture application, painting the sequence from background to foreground, and layer color build-ups. The left guide sheet, 8.5 X 11 was a simple format for accomplishing these ends.

There were 2 requirements: First, change the tree, give it a setting, add something to the background or foreground. Second, use smooth brush blends as desired, and add the impasto technique somewhere in the foreground.

Variations included willow trees, additions of animals and birds, water ways, park benches, added trees and plants, bridges, lamposts, playground, tree swing, and other ideas. Here are a few.
