PUTTING IT TOGETHER

Summary Designs are to represent best efforts in interpreting the practice skills that preceeded them. This is a time for personal interpretation and demonstration of one uniqueness in expressing the ideas they conceive.

There were only 3 requirements for these level 1 students. First, all colors had to be in different values. Smooth and textured applications had to be demonstrated. The idea for presentation could be in any style and the "unusual" and "fantasy" was welcomed. Of course, many sketches got the ideas moving and there were often very unique results. All paintings were 24" X 36".

impasto tree & water scene

A very strong and heavy textured painting with great color blends that impart a sweet/sad story. Look for nice broad strokes in the water area too.

large red flower

A fantasy flower! The heavily textured "mother flower" brings new life in each petal. Multi-color blends contrast nicely in the leaves.

mountains and water scene

This one has an oriental flavor, and is unusually painted in low intensity hues. This student found great enjoyment in broad stroke and used it well.

textured bear

Entirely done in impasto, this bear is most striking in pose and texture. Partly extended over the margin, he seems ready to charge.

textured tree with bee hive

The rough tree almost gives warning to the hive it harbors. The softly hued flowers bring mildness to the scene.

night fantasy with fushia and blue horse

Here, a peacefull night time fantasy finds a uniquely colorfulhorse in mystic surroundings.

colorful, flower-like abstract

The artist called this painting "End of War". I found that quite an interesting interpretation.

vines growing on brick wall

This non-art student found a niche in his first painting. Dry brush was effectively used in his foreground.

winter scene with a deer

A very talented 1st year student directly painted this scene without any sketches at all. It was an "off the cuff" creation.

branch tops overlapping the moon

It was interesting to see several students choose night scenes. Here a peeking moon is fenced by dark, impasto trees.
