  The joy of teaching beginning classes is seeing growth. Hesitant students challenge themselves and find that experimenting sometimes results in good surprises, and that mistakes don't hurt.

  Runny washes became a natural, expected happening, and ink's unpredictablility in wet areas is not only accepted, but desired.

  This student preferred doing 2 comparison paintings--all in cool hues. Controlling wetness was no problem here. Pointillism and dry brush add accents.

  In both examples, wax resist and ink were fondly explored. Yes, growth in watercolor painting is evident, and so is the need for further drawing skills. However, I enjoy taking success one experience at a time.
