COLOR APPLICATIONS 1: TEMPERA PAINTING

In the following summary design options, two considerations were to be effected: (1) the application of color blends into a well planned arrangement and (2) seeing how the visual presentation of each color sequence changes effects and design impact of the finished composition.

The first application option was to be a "GRID DESIGN" on a 12 X 18 format divided into 3" squares. This formed 6 group areas each to be painted in a particular color classification scheme.

The design was to include both transparent and opaque objects. A smooth or textured style of painting was a personal choice. The sketch was planned and the measured grid lines were drawn on top.

COLOR CLASSIFICATION WITH PATTERN

The element of "PATTERN" permits a design of repetition in which identical shapes are painted in different color systems similar to a grid. However, the designer also has a variety of arrangments in which the shapes can be turned or reversed. Style of smooth blends or textural painting is also an option. Also, in both grid and pattern arrangement, students were encouraged to include other art elements--line and texture, and show good size relationships and interesting organization.
