windowtoart: "PAINTING": Washouts 3       Part 4    Intro   Painting     Choices

All the examples of Tempera/Ink washouts are on an 18"X24" firm format. Most also employ a technique not previously mentioned: Glue Blockout. White glue is drawn in lines, patterns or small shapes over the dry paint, to reduce the effect of water eliminating paint from those areas. It also is a secondary method of designing line contours and patterns where desired. It washes away too, but just don't use too much! The "bubbles" above were produced with glue as well as the thin contour around the orchid petals.

Glue outlining was done as contour line around the bird and leaves above.

Other paintings completing the Tempera/Ink process can be seen at Washout 4 with a few more color bursts. Come take a look!
