Art strives for form and hopes for beauty......George Bellows

windowtoart: "PAINTING": Gesso 3       Group 4    Intro   Texture   Painting     Choices

Here's a story of creation, man and animals, creatures large and small--a colorful expression of joy and wonder of it all.

The gesso application was with palette knife and its texture shows quite clearly. Overlapping colors makes the top blend dominant, and mixing is controlled with additional colors applied. Undesired mixtures can be easily removed and new hues painted in place.

If more background texture is wanted, it can be emphasized by dabbing a dampened sponge or paper towel on areas of the completed painting and lifting off color where desired.

This is also a palette knife gesso application, from medium to heavy.

I like the simplicity here--broad color, large shapes, repetition of forms, and the way the blue wraps about the images.

Approximate symmetry is nicely met, and even though the raised images "happened", they too, seem well balanced in her painting.
