MAKING A PORTFOLIO

Talented, creative students have tremendous competition in seeking art recognition, financial grants and scholarships that assist them in advanced study after secondary graduation.

Most state and national portfolio requirements specify from 8-12 examples of work. Students opting to continue in professional art careers are given a list of inclusive media selections and technique methods to consider. They are encouraged to display (a) a variety of subject matter, (b) technical competence and (c) their own ideas, style, interpretations that indicates their particular individuality and expressive uniqueness.

Previous work is evaluated and new directions are planned. Scheduled work not completed in class time is finished at home. Portfolio topics for special work follow below. Students are encouraged to modify any suggestion in whatever way would exemplify their visual statements of development and competence.
