As long as we are consumers, the marketing industry will strongly affect our lives. As people who purchase goods we select items that are attractive, informative and present a positive image. We also like ads that present material quickly and give us ideas about the product within a few seconds of perusal. Students selecting something to promote often struggle to present the essence of the subject avoiding too much wordage. They needed to learn that empty space is often a very good thing, that simplicity is golden and that the first few seconds of sight in reading an ad are often the last as well. Therefore, we concentrated on sketches that said a lot by saying little in a big space that offered simple and strong information. Whew! And yes, technology has taken over much of what was done "by hand", but I like students to appreciate the work of the past as well as the future. In this realm of "advertising" we considered 3 different aspects: marketing,( for sales) community interests,(public events) and social reform (human relationships). This is the first area. |
