FIRST ASSIGNMENTWhen practices were completed, the first assignment was to implement a variety of pen point sizes in a word display. This required the placement of upper and lower case, italic, extended and condensed widths, and single, and double line spacing. The arrangement was lightly drawn in pencil first, remembering to allow extra widths for the wider pen points. The Number 2 pen point was used most frequently; other sizes are indicated above the words. |

Computer paper is lined every 1/2". You can make your own lined sheet on 12X18 drawing paper, using ball point pen lines lightly to allow pencil erasures later when needed. The first 2 lines allow a quick stroke "refresher" which you may choose to keep or eliminate in the final work. A word about "left handers". There ARE pen points for left handed folks, but not in all sizes. Some students were able to turn the paper and find their own way to letter with the pens. Others found that working backwards, from right to left was workable. Roman style was the only one where some form of management was needed. |
| The next area to explore is with a straight pen--producing graceful Script lettering, a second cousin to Roman "thick and thin"..... |
