There are a few times in classroom schedules where student interest lies elsewhere---like a few hours before the bell rings for a seasonal vacation. At these times I like to offer quick topics that can be completed in one class period. Anyone can enjoy doing this for home or office too. This idea is to develop a single word into a symbol with or without a descriptive phrase. Sometimes, students would work with a partner--after all, "2 heads are better than one", right? Both beginning and advanced classes are invited to participate and the latter enjoys knowing their examples will serve as demos for the former. Materials can be simple crayons to watercolors, pastels, markers or whatever you think is appropriate. |
