GRID DESIGN WEARS MANY HATS

It's a great assist for learning to focus on small details. As the process unfolds, it uplifts the spirits of those who thought they couldn't draw. It can be used as an integral part of the design as "changeover" lines to implement new color and textures, or it can be totally ignored once it's function has been attained. As explained previously, we went 1 step further as these examples show. The formats were 12"X18", and I'd like to have seen a few of them much larger!

SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL

Taking a section from the completed grid led to new understandings: size is only one factor in design; a completed work is never really "final"; new thoughts are limited only by one's vision and adaptations from one form of art can grow into another. This was difficult for some students to accept, especially those who disregared any aspect of "modern art" to be valid. However, we did make a very good start.

In Advanced Art levels, grid design is a bit more complex. It always is regarded as an important drawing tool and advances the initial function begun with the Introductory classes. Visit the grid series for level one students which begins HERE and as a Color Study Here to see what we did. How might you apply this process, hm-m?
